The Business Manager is a new role within MCS, central to the launch and development of Go Renewable, a joint venture between MCS and Energy Saving Trust. You will be expected to guide this business venture  through its early phases of deployment and growth. The role also includes  the oversight and management of a range of other external commercial relationships between MCS and its partners.  

MCS and The Energy Saving Trust are preparing to launch the new consumer offer  “Go Renewable”. The reputations and power of the two brands offer consumers a new level of confidence, delivered through a web-based  guide that supports consumers through the  steps of selecting appropriate renewable technologies for their home and then obtaining installation quotes from MCS certified businesses.  

Go Renewable is targeted with delivering major value to the renewable sector through improved consumer and contractor journeys. In time, it is expected to deliver significant revenues to the joint venture. 


Main role and responsibilities

Oversee the launch and operation of the new Go Renewable consumer portal. This will launch in 2024 as a joint venture between MCS and Energy Saving Trust.  

 The primary objective is to meticulously evaluate market behaviour and trends, furnishing the wider MCS team with indispensable insights and understanding of market behaviour.  

Key responsibilities: 

  1. Define, along with MCS and EST management the commercial and operational KPI’s of the new venture. 
  1. Ensure MCS and EST management are informed of performance against KPIs 
  1. Analysing user feedback and data to identify areas for improvement 
  1. Ensure Go Renewable is resourced and supported to provide the best chance of success 
  1. Help the project delivery team move Go Renewable into business as usual 
  1. Manage relationships with external partners for the delivery of Go Renewable, including contractors, assessment providers, platform developers and others. 
  1. Oversee other external commercial relationships for MCS such as Contractor Quality Scheme on Jersey, data sharing contracts and other non-certification lead revenue streams 
  1. Monitoring of website performance, identifying and addressing any issues 


Key aims of the role: 

  • Understand and define the user journey – build from the internal / external user testing conducted by MCS/Energy Saving Trust to test the selection and purchasing journey with actual homeowners, assessors, and installers to understand potential areas for improvement. 
  • Business model – test the business model with installers to understand whether the Go Renewable is delivering value.  
  • In-home assessment – Establish how many consumers move forward with an in-home assessment. Determinehow the price point of the assessment lands with householders, what is the drop-off rate and how long does it typically take for a consumer to get to the marketplace. 
  • Marketing – test the marketing approach for the platform. Determine what level of usage can be achieved based on organic traffic from MCS and EST websites, assessing how can this be augmented with fee / paid-for promotion or strategic outreach / partnerships. 
  • Advice – pilot the advice / help desk element of the platform. Determine what are the main questions being asked and as a result, how the site content / FAQs can be improved to better support users. 
  • Financials – test the process for tracking, reporting, invoicing, and forecasting financials for the venture. Develop a system / structure that can effectively scale with the platform. 
  • Product management – develop and test a process for continuous product improvement. Build a backlog and product roadmap with metrics for tracking usage. Agree a process for conducting regular reviews and prioritising future developments of Go Renewable.

  • Understanding of commercial business processes and delivery, ideally on-line (Essential)
  • Understanding of growing and launching a new business (Desirable)
  • Degree level education or equivalent (Desirable)
