MCS tours UK for NAPIT EXPO Technical Roadshow 2023
8 December 2023
From 20 April – 30 November 2023, MCS joined NAPIT on the road across England for the first time for their Technical Roadshow 2023.
From Manchester and Milton Keys to Leicester and Leeds, MCS visited eight locations across England to talk about the benefits and importance of MCS certification. It was great to be a headline sponsor of the roadshow, and support NAPIT in their efforts to train, educate, and upskill contractors across the renewables sector to meet the UK’s Net Zero targets.
This year’s roadshow had a specific focus on renewable technologies in the home. The ongoing cost-of-living crisis is having a direct effect on public demand for self-sufficiency and affordable energy. From chatting to contractors across the country, it’s evident that more homeowners are looking for MCS certified installers to install their solar panels, battery storage systems, and other low-carbon energy technologies.
Our expert team were on stand to talk about the benefits of becoming certified for battery storage and solar PV. 2023 has been a record-breaking year for battery storage so far. MCS has seen over 4,300 battery storage installations in 2023, and with over 850 contractors now certified for the technology. NAPIT was the first certification body to offer our battery storage, so it was great to work with them to encourage more contractors to become certified for battery.
Emily Mundon, Helpdesk Analyst, attended the Leicester show and said “The show was a great opportunity to speak with existing and potential certified contractors and support them with their queries. Several contractors already installing Solar PV were eager for more information on battery certification after the number of customer queries about electrical storage have gone up month on month in the last year.”

We also spoke to contractors about our Low Carbon Landscapes campaign, which comprises several data-driven tools, including regular reports and a brand-new, interactive tool – the MCS Data Dashboard. The campaign draws from the MCS Installations Database (MID), which holds details of every MCS certified, small-scale renewable energy installation in the UK since 2008.
Chloe Orme, Helpdesk Analyst, who attended the Leeds show told us: “The show was a fantastic place to hear more from contractors and NAPIT’s team of experts on the importance of certification in the sector and the problems they are seeing from non-certified installations. I enjoyed the chance to speak with contractors looking to share their feedback about MCS and the importance of consulting contractors and consumers on the future of the MCS Scheme.”
It’s always great to hear from electricians wanting to diversify into the renewables sector, and our contractors wanting to expand the scope of technologies that they’re certified for. If you are interested in becoming an MCS certified contractor, read our ‘Guide to Becoming MCS Certified’ here.
