BEIS launch Home Decarbonisation Skills Training competition

The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) have launched the Home Decarbonisation Skills Training competition, offering over £9 million to support training in the low carbon heating sector.

The Home Decarbonisation Skills Training Competition will fund training for people working, or who want to work, in the energy efficiency, building retrofit and low carbon heating sectors. The competition aims to increase supply chain capacity, both in terms of volume and skill level.

This increased supply chain capacity will support the delivery of existing BEIS home retrofit schemes (such as the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund and the Home Upgrade Grant) as well as the decarbonisation of our buildings in support of the UK’s net zero carbon emissions target.

The competition
£9.2 million will be available to training providers for programmes to deliver a suite of training solutions to support the energy efficiency, retrofit and low carbon heating sector.

A maximum of £1 million will be available for each competition project, subject to subsidy control restrictions. The number of projects funded will depend on the range of solutions proposed and the quality of the proposals received.

Successful projects will be expected to achieve one or more of the following:

  • installation training to the specific technology standard – for example, National Occupational Standards, PAS 2030:2019 standards, PAS 2035 standards, MCS standards or higher.
  • training in the installation of one or more individual energy efficiency and/or low carbon heating measures, including training for individuals with existing construction skills and training for those new to the sector.
  • support for training in retrofit assessor and retrofit coordinator skills to PAS 2035 standard, leading to the relevant qualification.

Read the guidance here to find out how to apply. Applications must be completed by 17 October 2022.
