Welcome to MCS

Congratulations on becoming an MCS certified contractor and welcome to the MCS community!

As the sector’s mark of quality, we provide exceptional opportunities to position your business as a quality, reputable and trusted renewable energy contractor at the forefront of this growing industry.

Below is some important information to help you make the most of your MCS certification. Please take some time to read through and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need any help or support.

Give us your feedback

Now that you are certified, we’d really like to hear from you about your experience of gaining MCS certification. We please ask that the appropriate MCS contact within your business spares a few minutes to complete our survey. Your response will be used to help us understand any barriers and how we can work with MCS certification bodies to improve the process.

MCS Installations Database (MID)

Your certification body, which processed your application and carried out your assessment, should have now set you up on the MCS Installations Database (MID). The MID is our central database where MCS certified installations need to be registered.

If you have not yet received an activation link (or if the link has expired) and you have not yet gained access to the MID, please contact the MCS Helpdesk and we can help you gain access. Your username will be the email address that your certification body has set up on your MID user account and you will need to set a password.

The first installation you need to raise a certificate for on the MID is the installation that you gained certification with as part of the recommissioning process outlined in clause 4.3 of MCS001-2 (unless you used an installation that is not fully within scope to gain initial certification as per clause 5.3.2 of MCS001-2). In line with the MCS Standards, MCS contractors must raise a certificate for every installation that falls under the scope of the scheme. The cost per MCS certificate is £30 + VAT, which is paid via the MID.

If you need help using the MID, we’ve got guidance documents available for download here.

The MCS Certification Mark

The MCS Certification Mark is a big part of what we do. It is a badge of quality, clearly demonstrating that your business or product has met the exacting criteria we set. So please display it with pride to help consumers and communities across the UK recognise the quality and integrity that MCS certification represents.

Your certification body should have provided you with an electronic brand pack, containing the MCS logo and MCS Certification Mark artwork files and brand guidelines. You can also access the MCS marketing materials here.

MCS website listing

As an MCS certified contractor, your company details will appear in our ‘Find a Contractor’ search tool on our website here. This is the most visited page on the MCS website and receives lots of visitors who are looking to find an MCS certified contractor.

Please search for your company and check that your details are correct and up to date, including your contact/website information and the regions where your business operates. If any information is incorrect and needs updating, contact the MCS Helpdesk who can liaise with your certification body to update your details.

Also, if you operate in Scotland, you can sign up to the Renewables Installer Finder free of charge. It helps homeowners find MCS certified contractors and read trustworthy customer reviews. If you’re interested in joining, register your account here and promote your business.

The MCS Data Dashboard

The MCS Data Dashboard provides near-real-time dynamic visualisations of the uptake of small-scale renewable technologies across the UK.
