MCS celebrates Green Careers Week with stakeholders

During Green Careers Week, MCS hosted a Liverpool City Region Home-Grown Energy Hub event, celebrating local talent and the promotion of green jobs.  

We welcomed speakers and stakeholders to our brand-new office to celebrate local talent and our work to boost green careers. 

We celebrated our own Future Leaders who have been empowered to promote low-carbon technologies as leaders in the net zero economy.  

To open, CEO Ian Rippin introduced MCS and our work to champion green careers and the importance of skills. After discussing the upcoming MCS Low Carbon Heating Apprenticeship, Ian introduced the other speakers invited to the event.

 We were very pleased to be joined by a range of guest speakers who have worked closely with MCS on expanding green careers networks. 

Guest Speakers

 Harry Bowles, Senior National Account Manager for DWP leads the Green Jobs Champions Network, covering all 37 UK districts for the department. We partnered with DWP on their Green Jobs Awareness Campaign which promotes opportunities to preserve or restore the environment. The videos created for this campaign were aired at the event and one can be found here.  

Toby Shaw, Director of Commercial Marketing for IEMA, focuses on getting the right skills and education in place to drive positive change. Toby showcased the recently launched Green Careers Hub, which allows jobseekers to stay up-to-date with opportunities in the green sector. The hub also provides information on required skills by region, as well as the priority areas by sector. 

Jim Johnson, North West Regional Manager for the Electrical Contractors’ Association (ECA) showcased the ‘Leading the Charge’ project. This digital series explores progress in the electrical industry and opportunities for net zero investment. You can access the digital series here.  

 Our guest speakers perfectly showcased the opportunities within the green sector and the ways we can close the skills gap. 

Our networking evening afterwards allowed everyone to meet and discuss how their work can support one another.
