Consultation Announcement: Heat Pump Standards

MCS have today published a one-month consultation on changes to our Standard for Heat Pumps (MIS 3005).

This presents a significant update to MIS 3005 which is intended to improve and simplify the requirements. More importantly it separates Heat Pump design and installation into two distinct Standards.

This proposed separation should have little impact on those currently certified for both design and installation (according to MIS 3005 issue 5.0) but allows for new installers without heat pump design capability, such as installers of fossil fuel heating systems, to enter the market and draw upon certified heat pump designers. It also aligns with new Heat Pump training which is also currently under development.

Following this development work, MCS would now like to invite comments from stakeholders. The deadline for submitting comments for this consultation is Friday 18th September 2020.
