Solar Skills Technologies Bootcamp – London
15 December 2022
MCS is currently working closely with partners Solar Energy UK to deliver the Mayor of London’s Solar Skills London project as part of his Solar Action Plan.
The project aims to double the number of certified solar contractors in London, in part, by developing the next generation of installers.
To achieve this target, Solar Energy UK have recently partnered with South Thames Colleges Group – with campuses in Wandsworth, Kingston-upon-Thames, Morden and Carshalton – to deliver a short Solar Skills Technologies learning course.
Introduction to Working in Green Construction – Solar Skills Technologies
The course will offer London-based learners a two-week solar skills bootcamp and set them up for a career in green energy.
The programme gives learners a comprehensive overview of the solar industry, the types of jobs available and future career prospects. The course has already received well over 100 applicants.
Candidates successfully completing the programme will be offered an interview with a solar company for apprenticeships as they arise in 2023.
How is MCS involved?
MCS is assisting the development of the bootcamp by engaging with local solar employers to provide industry insight to candidates enrolled on the course and offer interviews following their completion of the bootcamp.
Given our focus on skills and competency, and our existing working relationships with established contractors, we are in a position to support new entrants to the solar industry with interview experience and job opportunities.
We would therefore like to hear from MCS certified solar contractors based or operating in the Greater London area who would be interested in offering interviews to successful candidates.
How to get involved in the project
Please let us know if you are interested in being one of the first contractors to support the development of the next generation of London solar installers and shaping the local opportunities in the green energy sector by joining an interview panel as an interviewer.
You can register for the free event on the 21 December 14.00 – 15.00, organised by Solar Energy UK, this will provide a full overview of the project and support available to you.
