Consultation: Updates to MCS 012 Product Standard for Pitched Roof Installation Kits

MCS has today published a four-week consultation on the updated MCS 012 Product Standard for Pitched Roof Installation Kits.

MCS 012 Issue 3.0 has been substantially re-written to improve its overall structure, simplify and clarify the language, and incorporate a new document style and layout.

The updated document now also includes test methods for mounting systems for use on ‘flat’ roofs rather than just pitched roofs.

Given the differing views on the pitch angle that determines a flat or pitched roof, the document simply categorises systems in terms of the manner of fixing. The new categories include mechanically fixed, bonded, and ballasted (including systems referred to ‘low-ballast’ due to aerodynamic effects).

The consultation form welcomes feedback on several elements within the updated Product Standard:

  • The inclusion of products such as PV tiles (or slates) and products where PV is bonded to existing types of roofs (e.g., metal sheet roofing).
  • The certification of flashing products
  • The fire rating of components made from organic materials (e.g., plastics) that might affect the fire rating of the existing roof covering.

The deadline for submitting comments for the consultation is 5pm, Tuesday 3 May 2022.
